Interview with Stephen Ritz, Author of “The Power of a Plant: A Teacher’s Odyssey to Grow Healthy Minds and Schools,” Part 1 of 2

Stephen Ritz began to teach at a South Bronx high school. In his classroom, a box of unassuming flowers unexpectedly transformed building tension amongst his students into laughter. This gave him an epiphany -- the solution to his school’s problems could be found in plants! Mr. Ritz altered his curriculum to integrate gardening in all learning. What followed was success greater than he could have ever hoped for, and his methods have become an international phenomenon.
