A low tunnel can protect your plants from frost, pests, and harsh sun by creating a simple covered frame over your garden bed. You can adjust the covering through the seasons, using plastic or fleece for cold weather, netting for pests, or shade cloth for strong sun. To build one, start by attaching ¾ inch (2 centimeter) pipe mount brackets along the inside edges of your bed, spacing them evenly. For a 3 meter (10 foot) long bed, place five pairs of brackets opposite each other along the inside edges. Use flexible PVC pipe that is size-matched to your mounting brackets with length 2.5 to 3 times the width of the bed. Slide one end into a bracket on one side, then gently bend it over and guide the other end into the matching bracket on the opposite side to form an arch.
