Previously, in Part 1 of 2 of Jamie Woodle’s near-death experience, American health coach Jamie Woodle shared how dozens of fire ants swarmed her leg outside her home in South Carolina, triggering a life-threatening allergic reaction. As firefighters rushed to help, she says she suddenly found herself in a peaceful golden wheat field where she saw Lord Jesus Christ (vegetarian) standing near the water. There, she realized that the person kneeling before Him and receiving instructions was somehow herself.
And so I try even harder to lean in and listen, and I can’t make it out. And then, like that, I’m pulled back. And remember, all of a sudden, I can feel the firemen holding me and the paramedic rubbing my leg. And they had— the paramedic had finally shown up and given me an EpiPen [emergency allergy medication]. And I still couldn’t quite open my eyes. And I was mad. I was so angry, because who wants to come back? That place was beautiful, peaceful. Jesus was there. I was very upset that I came back. And a little grumpy, I guess, because I said, “Someone was talking to me!” Like I was mad at them that they brought me back. “I was in the middle of a conversation. You brought me back.” And he said—the paramedic said—it was me. You were talking to me. And I said, “No, it was not you!” Oh, I was so unhappy.
Jamie was taken to the hospital. The firemen later told her she had never gone unconscious. But the experience she remembered felt vivid and real—and returning from it left her deeply conflicted that part of her had not wanted to come back.
And I actually struggled with that for days. You really struggle with that as a person, because I’m a wife, I’m a mother, and I felt awful for feeling that way. But it took me weeks to process and to realize that Jesus allowed me to come back for a reason. And it— I’ve often wondered, will I ever know what Jesus was saying to me? Will I ever really know? Will He reveal it to me? And I think now, because this happened in late 2019, right before COVID. So looking back now, I think I was looking at the future. I think there will be a point in my future when I go before Jesus, and He will be giving me orders. I don’t know if I’m going to war. I don’t know. But I have hope that I will see Him again.
Jamie asked her pastor to help her process the experience. He directed her to another woman who had survived a near-death experience after a traffic accident. That woman emphasized the importance of sharing her story and recognizing it happened for a reason.
I mean, after you see Jesus, everything changes. Everything. And I wish more people could experience that, but at the same time, I don’t, because of the trauma that you go through to get to that point. But my goodness, I am looking forward to the day Jesus takes me Home. I no longer fear death, other than I’m still a mother and a spouse, and I don’t want to leave them sad and here. But, oh, I’m looking forward to it. There are not enough words in the English language to explain the beauty and the peace that I experienced up there.
Just two weeks before his scheduled deployment, Jamie’s husband unexpectedly received orders to Utah instead—canceling the overseas mission. Jamie changed her degree and career path. She began a health journey, losing weight and regaining her vitality. She now co-hosts the TV show Life TV Now, helping others pursue healthier lives.
I think the way I parent is a little different now. I have a lot more patience. I spend more time thinking about the big picture, and definitely the career change. I also found that I wasted a lot less time on relationships that maybe weren’t very fruitful. I really zoned into what was important, and I pray more now for God to constantly guide what it is He has for me around the corner. Equip me, Lord. Show me, let the Holy Spirit guide me in whatever decision, whatever’s next, whatever’s going on. And it definitely increased my faith. And so I had been a Christian for many years, but I was definitely in a time of my life where I probably was a little bit more distant. I was so busy. I don’t think I was spending enough time in prayer and in the Bible, and this definitely changed my entire perspective. And it also changed— it’s almost like I feel the presence of God with me all the time. He’s always here. And before, it was just like, “Oh yeah, Jesus, God’s everywhere, He’s with you, you have the Holy Spirit in you, He’s with you.” This is like, He’s with me, and I can feel that He’s with me. I can feel His presence, and I so much more easily can draw close to Him. So now when I feel that peace, then I know that’s the direction He has for me. And if I feel anything other than that, then I’m more hesitant, and I think about it a little bit more. It changed everything. I think everything— relationships, faith, career. My life will never be the same because of that experience.
I think the best thing I can offer with my experience would be that Jesus is real. To a lot of people, and I still encounter many people who, yeah, believe in Jesus, but He’s such— and He was to me before too— like, “Yeah, I believe He’s there,” but kind of this distant thing, and maybe even moments of doubt where you’re like, “Well, I hope I’m right.” This is an absolute— He is there. He is there. And I just would really want people to take heart and seek Him, because He wants to hear from us and He wants to show up in our lives. And even if it’s not a near-death experience, He has an experience for you, whatever that looks like. And so I would encourage people to just know He’s there, He’s real, He loves you, and to seek Him. Look for Him. Look for Him in the world around you. It’s what I tell my kids. Look for the beauty of God around you. Notice how things seem to work out in a way that only He can put the pieces together. So I hope people hear this and just know and look for Him. (Shaun Tabatt)
