Previously in this multipart series on Laurie Peterson’s near-death experience, five-year-old Laurie struck her head in a fall, suffering a traumatic brain injury, seizures, and paralysis on one side of her body. During a seizure at the hospital, she slipped out of her body, entered a brilliant white place, and met Lord Jesus Christ (vegetarian). His overwhelming Love replaced her feelings of unworthiness, but after judging the short life she had lived, the Lord told her she would have to return to Earth because she still had things to do there. Laurie then returned to the hospital room where her mother had been praying for her healing and reentered her body.

It’s not a good feeling. It’s really uncomfortable, because when you’re outside of your body, you feel you have no pain at all, and you feel very free, and you feel very joyful. It feels like you’re being squished back into this containment. It’s very uncomfortable, and then the pain comes. All the feelings, sensations of being in a body, come back, so it’s very painful. I was sad to have to be back. I had to come to some kind of peace about being back in the world. And that was hard for me.

I was in the hospital. They kept me. I really don’t know how long I was there. I remember they did a test; from a child’s perspective, it’s all so strange, but they shaved little parts and put wires on your head to, I guess, see if your brain is functioning fully and that kind of thing. And they did those sort of tests, and I guess eventually I got sensation back, and so they discharged me from the hospital.

After her recovery, Laurie says she experienced angelic visits, heard the Lord speak to her, and sometimes sensed Heaven entering into her everyday life. She also recalls one night when the Lord physically appeared in her room.

I was fast asleep, and I felt Him, His presence, enter the room. I could see Him physically in the room. My room lit up with Light, I mean like brilliant, radiating Light. And I was so happy that He’d come to visit me. So, I jumped out of my bed, and I went to hug Him, and He disappeared. So, I went back to my bed, I climbed back in bed, and I was kind of starting to fall back asleep, and then the Lord came back into the room, and so then, I just kind of peeked at Him under the covers. And then, I got so tired, I couldn’t stay awake anymore, and I fell back to sleep. And He didn’t say anything to me. He just was there, and I felt comforted that He had come to see me, because I miss Him so much.

And I guess the other thing about Heaven, one thing that makes it so wonderful is that there’s no sin there. And if you’ve never been in a place without sin, you don’t know what that’s like, but it feels so good. It is so, so good. I just long for the day when I can be back. On the other hand, I’ve tried to come to some sort of peace about the fact that He wants me here. I have things to do here.

And I told the Lord one time, I said, “I’m sorry. Please forgive me for being such a crybaby about being here on the Earth.” And He said, “What do we do when our baby is crying?” And I said, “We comfort it, Lord. We comfort it.” So, He doesn’t hold that against me, that I’m not always so happy to be here.

Laurie’s prayers also extended to people throughout the Middle East. I pray and intercede for the whole region. That’s what the Lord has given me to do. But Laurie struggled with why the Lord did not intervene to stop people from being hurt.

I said, “Lord, if people’s hearts are evil and they’re sinning continuously, I don’t understand. Why don’t You intervene? Why don’t You stop people from being hurt?” And He said, “As you were evil and sinning continuously before you gave your heart to Me?” And I said, “Yes, Lord.” I said, “How do You want me to pray? And what do You desire?” And the Lord told me, “I desire to pursue their hearts.” And I said, “Yes, Lord, then that is what I will pray.” And so, I pray for the hearts of everybody in the Middle East, on every side, that the Lord soften their hearts, that they come to see Him and know Him face-to-face. They experience Him in dreams or visions, they hear Him, that everybody on all sides, that He brings His peace into their hearts. (GOD Encounters with Janie DuVall)
